Student Travel Support

Limited funds are available to assist some graduate students to attend the NZ Association of Philosophers Conference at the University of Canterbury

Each department in NZ can recommend that one student has their attendance at the conference subsidised. Interested students should, in the first instance, approach their supervisor.

There isn’t any set requirement to determine which student is subsidised. In the past, some subsidies have been based solely on the merit of the paper the student wants to present, while others have been given to students who are keen to attend and present, but truly need the money to do so.

The amount of money each student is given will depend on whether the conference breaks even. In the worst case scenario, you would have your conference fees covered and a bit of money to help with transport and/or accommodation.

Graduate students are sometimes willing to let students from other universities sleep on their couches. We will put out a call to Canterbury students later in the year in the hope that some have space, but the accommodation situation in Christchurch is not great, so we may not have anyone with space this time around. If people do say ‘yes’, we will send out an email offering billeting.
